The only camp on the largest Island National ParkRubondo Island lies in the southwest corner of Lake Victoria, the second largest lake in the world. The island is 26km long and ranges from 3-10km in width with 80% of its surface covered by pristine forest. This is virgin paradise; uninhabited for decades. Out on the water there are world class fishing and game viewing opportunities. The nearest airstrip is Rubondo, which takes daily scheduled flights from Mwanza and charter flights. Transfers between camp and airstrip will take around 20 min.Comfortable and upmarketThe former camp has been completely renovated and refurbished with more comfortable and upmarket facilities. An elevated outcrop of rocks amidst scattered trees provides the perfect setting for the new dining and lounge area, offering a splendid view of the lake and bay. A swimming pool surrounded by decks is located close to the beach and common area. Rubondo Island offers superb reward for the adventurous and active where days can be spent exploring the pristine forest and water around the island.8 new luxury chaletsThe 8 new luxury accommodation chalets are nestled under huge trees just 60 meters from the sandy lake shore. 3 large new suites open on 15.12.2012 and will stand alongside 5 existing luxury tents under thatch. These and the new suites will be enjoyed by guests during our “soft opening†phase from 15.12.2012 to 31.03.2013. Gradually the existing luxury tents will be replaced by the larger suites and the camp will be completely ready for all to enjoy by June 2013. Reduced rates are offered.
